Porsche 917...
In 1973, it was Mark Donohues main race car. Team & Driver : Penske & Mark Donohue * This car was crashed in practice for Watkins Glen in '73 * Despite 917/30 being banned from Can-Am in '74, this car was invited to appear at Mid-Ohio in '74 (to try a boost falling spectators). Brian Redman drove & finished second (due to a poor tire choice) * August '75 Donohue took this car to Talladega painted in Cam 2 colours where he set the highest average speed for any circuit of any car at 221mph (which he held for many, many years). Mark died 10 days later in practice for the Austrian Grand Prix. * The car was originally not any faster than the 917/10 that Donohue tested it against at Paul Ricard - so he convinced Porsche to graft on the long-tail of the 917/10 ... this alone increased the top speed from 210 to 240mph !! They "turned up the screw" on the car to give 1,2000 Bhp.
